During the last couple of weeks I photographed over a dozen shops including Daniel Mostyn of Dirty Girl Hair, Chris The of Black Star Party and Lucy Godoroja of All Buttons. I’ll be exhibiting the images at the Chrissie Cotter Gallery on the 30th May til 3rd June.
In this series, I aim to capture the independent shops of Newtown.
Against the backdrops of their own shops, a cross section of inhabitants are depicted. Time is fleeting and the community is always changing. These images will preserve the identities of Sydney’s most vibrant suburb for our community in the present moment, and for generations to come.
Although my first Pozible project was not successful in raising its funding goal, I was so relieved and happy when the City of Sydney Archives Department got in touch and helped fund the project in exchange for some images.
I'm planning to release a limited hard-cover book to coincide with Newtown's 150 yr anniversary at the end of the year.
