2009-2013 I photographed the independent shopkeepers of Newtown, a suburb well known for its diversity and alternative culture. Documenting a vital commercial community at a pivotal time in the neighbourhood’s history as gentrification takes hold. This project was self-published as a book showcasing 50 portraits and interviews.
