Australia’s hippest music festival.

St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival
Sydney College Of The Arts, Sydney
31/01/15

2015 was the first year I’ve ever attended let alone photographed Laneway Festival. I was shooting for the folks at Spin Magazine this year.

The Venue
I was really impressed with the venue Sydney College of the Arts in Rozelle. The two main stages were situated in front of grassy hills with excellent views all the way back. There was a great selection of food from local haunts such as Mary’s and Porteno and the plenty of bars with short queues! Well done to the production.

The Acts
FKA Twigs
was definitely the Must-Photograph artist of the day. There was a buzz of anticipation with every photographer packed into the front of stage. She was mesmerising to photograph and choosing only a few images to display proved very difficult.
It was great to see a lot of Australian bands attract big crowds, with Pond and Dune Rats getting the most rowdy crowd reactions! Other highlights for me were Jungle and Perfect Pussy.

Shooting the crowd
In the last couple of years my focus has shifted from the stage to the crowd. I’m working on building up a gallery of great crowd images that I will turn into a book and exhibit for 2016. You can see some of the images here.
